BASEBALL

In the 4A NCHSAA Baseball Tournament, Jordan won their 1st Round game over Holly Springs before meeting New Hanover in the 2nd round. 

 

SOFTBALL

In the 4A NCHSAA Softball Tournament, DPS was well represented with Jordan, Northern Durham, and Riverside qualifying to compete.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Jordan and Riverside women’s soccer teams represented DPS in the NCHSAA 4A Women’s Soccer Tournament.  Jordan triumphed over Laney 3-2 before meeting Chapel Hill in the 2nd Round.  Riverside played in the 1st Round versus Cleveland. 

In the 3A Division, Durham School of the Arts played in the 1st Round versus Fike.  

 

MEN'S TENNIS

At the NCHSAA Men’s 4A Individual Tennis State Tournament, Jordan's Eli Welch and Will Furman advanced to the 2nd Round of the Doubles Draw. The duo beat Ardrey Kell 6-3, 6-1 before falling to Mount Tabor in the 2nd Round.

TRACK/FIELD

Dozens of DPS athletes earned top honors at the 4A NCHSAA Track & Field Championships.

Desmond Smith of Hillside won gold in the Men’s 110 Meter Hurdles and took second place in the 300M. 
Hillside’s team of Alajah Rogers, Noni Wise, Nala Wise, August Freeman, Maya Southerland, Stephanie Jackson, and Zyon Alston combined for 19 points winning 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in the 4X400M 4X200M, 4x100M Relays.
Hillside senior Lia Anderson won 2nd place in the High Jump.

Jordan senior Ian Rouse won gold in the Men’s 800 Meter Run and took 4th place in the 1600 Meter Run.
Jordan’s Grady Dupree-Isaac placed 4th in the shotput while teammate Jaden Reece claimed 5th in the 300 Meter Hurdles.

Riverside junior Rafaela Drake placed second in the Girls Triple Jump while teammate Elizabeth Healy had a top 4 finish in the Girls 1600 Meter Run.


RIVERSIDE TRACK/FIELD NEWS

Riverside had multiple athletes compete in the 4A State Championship this season and set new school records.

Elizabeth Healy was 4th in the 1600m run and broke the 1600m and 800m women's school record.

Rafaela Drake was 2nd in the triple jump.

Philip Blum broke the 1600m and the 800m men's school record.

Congratulations to Bryan Hampson who will be running cross-country for Elon College.

Congratulations also to Riverside HS Alumni Henry Haase who had a stellar freshman year running at the University of Richmond.

A special thanks and recognition of Riverside Athletic Director Robert Duncan for being a strong and supportive advocate for his coaches. He is there for each coach and always quick to respond and help whenever a coach needs some support.
